Welcome to the Carmel in Performance Blog

I love dance and now I have made dance my life by getting a place into one of the best dance school in Europe! I LOVE being in London and Now I dont ever want to leave!

I live in Newcastle with my mum who works in education. To make it possible for me to follow my dream and go to college I need to raise enough money to support myself.

The performance aspect of the college work means that there will be little time if any to earn money in term time, so no daytime TV for me.

Because of this I am seeking the support of individuals and companies in the North East of England and that is why I have created this Blog.

“…her dynamic quality is inspiring, what a treat to watch her in performance, her attitude towards other students is excellent. Her potential is un-believable.”
Emma Dunn, Advanced Training Programme, Dance City.

Can you help me?

For the next three years I am going to have to find financial support, without it I will not be able to go to London to attend the Laban Collage. Your help as an individual or as a company could change my life. Where possible I would like to give something back to the people who sponsor me.

I can give companies that support me things that would help justify the support: Monthly newsletters, an article and photos for your website, a framed letter of thanks with photo to go in the foyer of the business, use of my dance photographs in your business or using me in your product or corporate brochure.

For individuals I can only realistically offer regular up-dates, tickets to see me dance and the knowledge that you are helping make someones dream come true.

“Carmel is a very creative dancer and a consummate performer who constantly ‘delivers the goods’." Pete Huggins, Associate Director,Dance City & Northern Youth Dance Company.

The North East

"Carmel’s passion for dance is an integral part of her persona and it is what drives her work ethic and commitment. I recommend Carmel unreservedly for any dance work."
Lynda Clough, Head of Dance, Dame Allan’s school.

I am very proud of my roots in the North East and I did not have to move out of the area to get my first film opportunity as a performer. I had a speaking role as an extra in ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’. For a month I was involved in the filming at Alnwick Castle.

I have danced a lot in the North East and venues include:
*Baltic Campus of Gateshead Collage
*Blyth Community Collage
*Dance city - Newcastle
*Gala Theatre- Durham
*Northern School of Contemporary Dance Leeds
*Northern Stage – Newcastle
*Performing Arts Theatre - Berwick
*South Shields Playhouse
*The Arc Theatre – Stockton
*The Sage- Gateshead
*Tyne Theatre

I have danced in London while representing the North East in venues such as:
*The Royal Opera House – London
*Saddlers Wells - London
*London School of Contemporary Dance
*Laban Trinity College - London

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

“Carmel has been a wonderful role model for our children. She has a respectful attitude towards those she works with and has a happy outgoing personality.”
Jinni Sara, Head Teacher, Gosforth Park First School.

My formal training began at the age of three, I attended ballet classes and achieved grade 7 RAD before gaining a scholarship and moving into contemporary ballet with the ‘Linbury Programme’.

I have now progressed into the Advanced Training Programme as a third year student. I train for well over 12 hours a week (that does not include performances and rehearsals) but enjoy every moment of it because I can feel the improvement in my technique and performance skills. Along side the performance the theory of movement also intrigues me. I want to understand the theory and put it into action as part of becoming a better dancer.

At present I am also part of Northern Youth Dance Company, this is a small company of only 12 dancers. Joining NYDC has been the best dance experience of my life so far, as it has made me realise how much I truly want to become a contemporary dancer.

Having researched many dance schools I think that Laban Trinity is one of the best for me because I believe in the values and high standards Laban Trinity pursues and its focus on enabling students to achieve their full potential.

On completion of my degree I want to join a professional dance company, which, will continue to deepen my knowledge of dance as well as increase my variety of movement and performance experience, I never want to stop learning as long as I can perform. I feel I don’t just want to dance but I have to dance.

Ultimately my dream is to join the Alvin Ailey dance company in New York. I would love to travel and eventually use my expertise to create my own dance company.

What people have to say about Carmel

In Performance: “Carmel’s progression has excelled throughout the years of working with her. Carmel is a very creative dancer and a consummate performer who constantly ‘delivers the goods’. She presents maturity and confidence on stage and off the stage is a well-motivated, reliable young girl with great potential due to the love she has for dance.”
Pete Huggins, Associate Director of Dance City, ATP and Northern Youth Dance Company.

In Performance: “Constant hard work in all areas, her dynamic quality is inspiring, what a treat to watch her in performance, her attitude towards other students is excellent. Her potential is un-believable.”
Emma Dunn, Contemporary dance teacher on the Advanced Training Programme, Dance City.

As a Teacher: “Carmel has been a wonderful role model for our children. She has a respectful attitude towards those she works with and has a happy outgoing personality.”
Jinni Sara, Head Teacher, Gosforth Park First School.

As a Teacher: “Carmel showed great maturity when teaching the children and engaged in a professional manner whilst delivering fun dance sessions, she was a great asset to the school.”
Sharon MacDonald, Sports Coordinator, Cheviot Primary School.

At School: “Ever since Carmel joined Dame Allen’s school in sixth form to study Dance at A level it became apparent that Carmel was artistically talented. An exceptional performer Carmel has a diverse range of talents, which include acting and singing as well as dance. She has an innate ability to command the stage and for one so young is able to communicate a range of emotions through movement, text and music.

Carmel’s passion for dance is an integral part of her persona and it is what drives her work ethic and commitment. I recommend Carmel unreservedly for any dance work.

Carmel is a determined accomplished, strong-minded young woman. She is a generous, honest and has the ability to work equally successfully either independently or within a group.”
